Why I’m Running...
I’m Ed Tarver, a veteran, former state senator, former U.S. Attorney, a devoted husband to my wife Carol and the proud father of Edward, Elizabeth, Riley, and Ryan. My love for this state and for all Georgians inspired a career in law and public service. My experience in every branch of government makes me uniquely prepared to represent you in the United States Senate. As your next U.S. Senator, I am committed to fighting for the rights and needs of Georgians in every corner of our state, from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Flint River to River Street.

Ed Tarver is an experienced, committed and trusted leader with an exemplary record of public service. Ed actively served the local and state community before elective and appointive office. He was Chairman of Easter Seals of East Georgia, Chairman of the Augusta Technical College Board of Directors, the first African American President and Chairman of the Board of the Leadership Georgia Foundation, an affiliate of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. He also served as Chairman of the Metro Augusta Chamber of Commerce.
In 2009, he was appointed by President Barack Obama, becoming the first African American U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. Ed served Georgians as a state legislator for three terms, championing bipartisan policies supporting veterans, consumers, and individuals with disabilities. He is a former U.S. Army Field Artillery Officer and an experienced attorney with unparalleled expertise in government relations, civil rights, and compliance. He is a graduate of Augusta University and the University of Georgia School of Law. A father of four, Ed resides in Augusta with his wife, Carol, a pediatrician.
Ed serves in the U.S. Army for seven years, earning the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged
Ed graduates from the University of Georgia School of Law and becomes the first African American judicial law clerk in the Augusta Division of the Federal District Court
Ed is elected to the Georgia State Senate. He represented District 22 for three terms before resigning the seat following a nomination from President Barack Obama to serve as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia
Ed’s historic nomination is confirmed by the U.S. Senate and he becomes the first African American to serve as chief prosecutor in the jurisdiction’s 230-year history
Ed announces his run for U.S. Senate

Ed served three terms in the Georgia State Senate and is an adept and accomplished legislator with unparalleled expertise in creating and implementing policy and building bipartisan coalitions. As a state senator, he sponsored or co-sponsored 123 pieces of legislation. As a U.S. Senator, he'll work to expand and increase health care, preserve agriculture and natural resources, strengthen Georgia families, and enhance educational outcomes for Georgia's children.
